The North Phoenix Lions Club provides eye exams and eye glasses for children in 38 different schools.
Services are provided by the Lions Vision Center. The Lions Vision Center
"provides top-notch quality eye care regardless of opportunity and income. The objective then is to help those in need, particularly the area's underserved youth, enjoy improved vision through properly prescribed eye wear, regardless of ability to pay. The Center accommodates an average of 400 patients per month, providing examinations for a wide range of vision deficiencies and dispensing quality corrective eyewear. The center does not provide used or discarded eyeglasses. The Lions Vision Center is a non-profit corporation, which works with most Lions Clubs in the metropolitan Phoenix area. The Clubs work closely with school nurses who, after administering visual acuity tests, identify students who may be experiencing vision difficulties. These nurses also help ascertain the student's family financial situation. Where an inability to pay for vision services would otherwise prohibit the student's from receiving corrective treatment, the school nurse refers the case to the Sight Chairmen of the Lions Club which sponsors that school, who then puts the student and his/her family in touch with the Vision Center."
